When Urge Tattoos (Facebook, Twitter), voted Victoria’s Best Tattoo Shop for three consecutive years, came a’knockin for a new website we saw a wonderful opportunity to collaborate with some of the best artists on Vancouver Island.
They did not disappoint!
Oddly enough, it’s the most creative of our clients that tend to hand us the reigns and say ‘just make it awesome‘, and Urge was no exception.
Urge Tattoos provided the iDreamDigital creative team with the freedom to design whatever our hearts desired. Not being strangers to their shop or industry (Josh Aldrich, Managing Director of iDreamDigital is known to frequent the Urge shop from time to time… to time to time to time) we knew exactly where this website should arc.
Atmosphere.
“From jump street our goal was to create a sense of atmosphere”, said Josh Aldrich (Linkedin). “Using generalized photos from the shop, sourced from a variety of professional and amateur photogs, we were able to deliver on that objective in spades.”.
The new Urge website is one of high contrast.
Visually the website uses splashes of color to introduce both staff and services, while stark black-and-whites fill in the gaps. Elsewhere, the site demonstrates this contrast in it’s artwork, where for example a beautiful floral design shares a gallery with a masterfully designed sugar skull (Day of the Dead) motif. Search optimization continues with new content pieces in planning for the home page however the addition of a blog as well as the appropriate image optimization has kicked-off the effort to climb back to the top of Google where this website once stood, prior to Google’s Panda update.
Website Specs
As with many of our most fascinating and captivating websites the Urge Tattoos property was designed and launched using the Nova One platform over WordPress. The slider layers were of particular handiness in this build along with Nova’s infinity flexible homepage widget system. Moreover, a custom gallery solution was conceived to be user-friendly and easily navigable for staff portfolios.
